David Régis: an American from France 07.06.98 16h50 CET David REGIS (N°6), a defender currently playing at Karlsruhe and in the UNITED-STATES team (Groupe F), was born in Martinique with the French nationality. Never selected for the French national team in spite of having played several seasons at Valenciennes, Strasbourg and Lens, he will play his first World Cup with the US team as a result of his marriage with an American woman.
Discovered in the summer of 1997 by Steve SAMPSON, US national team coach, David REGIS joined the squad for the last warm-up matches. This World Cup is a big event for him.
"The fact that its taking place in France motivates me even more. Nevertheless, Ill have to treat this like any other competition," he said. "The US team could cause an upset - our strength is that were very relaxed. The team we fear the most is Yugoslavia."
