SAFETY FIRST
|
The safety and security aspect of a World Cup is as large an issue as the media coverage that goes with the event, and one whose scale goes far beyond the ordinary.A great deal is at stake, and it reflects not only the image of the organisers, but also that of the whole country hosting this world-embracing event. An issue touching the whole world, safety and security is here a multilayered concern that involves not only the essential job of looking after the spectators and the teams, but also aspects like ensuring constant power supplies, security in telecommunications, IT and information systems, and safety in terms of transport and buildings.
The public sector and the French Organising Committee will be sharing the responsibility for making FRANCE 98 a safe and secure event. They will be work-ing shoulder to shoulder with a single aim: to lay on a joyful and fun-packed sporting event both in and around the stadiums, throughout the 33 days when the whole world will beat to the rhythm of the World Cup.
