List of own goals in the history of the World Cup 23.06.98 16h11 CET
Following extensive studies of the video of match no. 29 between GERMANY and YUGOSLAVIA (Group F), on 21 June in LENS, FIFA's Technical Study Group has credited Predrag MIJATOVIC ( 9) with his team's first goal which was scored in the 13th minute.
Also, the TSG came to the conclusion that the first goal for GERMANY (the result of a deflected free-kick by TARNAT in the 73th minute) is to be considered an own goal by Sinisa MIHAJLOVIC (11). The deflection was considered decisive as TARNAT's shot would have gone wide.
The number of own goals in the 1998 World Cup amounts to four already, thus equalising the all-time record set in Switzerland in 1954.
