United fears over Foe deal
MANCHESTER, England, May 20 (AFP)
Manchester United said Wednesday they believe their five million pound (eight million dollars) bid for Cameroon World Cup midfield star Marc-Vivien Foe has collapsed. French club Lens have not responded to the Old Trafford clubs improved offer-and chairman Martin Edwards fears they never will. Edwards said: "We wont be improving our offer. I doubt now that we will be able to proceed with Foes transfer."

Manager Alex Ferguson had watched Foe and wanted him to team up with PSV Eindhovens Dutch star Jaap Stam, who they bought two weeks ago for 10 million pounds-a world record for a defender.
