Won the UEFA Cup in 97 (beating Inter Milan in penalty shoot-out). Saved from Zamorano in the shoot-out thanks to his coach Huub Stevens who had told him that the Chilean nearly always shot to the right.
Last year Silvio Berlusconi announced he would be join AC Milan and his fellow countrymen Bierhoff and Ziege. But Schalke were able to use a clause in his contract that kept him for another year. It runs out in June this year.
Not always had the best relationship with Schalke fans. Once had to jump on a tram after a match in Leverkusen to escape them.
It what might have been his last match for Schalke, against Arminia Bielefeld, was also his 200th in the Bundesliga
